Our Services

At Oaknine Healthcare, we strive to make therapy simple, effective, and accessible. By coming directly to your home, we help families avoid travel time, long waitlists, and the stress of fitting appointments into busy days. Sessions take place in familiar spaces, where children often feel more comfortable and can practice skills that naturally carry into daily life.

Our team offers Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, and Psychotherapy. Each service is tailored to your child’s needs and your family’s goals.

Occupational Therapy

Handwriting + Typing Development

We support children in developing both printing and typing skills to help them keep up with classroom demands and feel more confident in their written work. Whether it’s writing neatly, organizing their thoughts on paper, or building fluency with a keyboard, strong written communication skills are key to success at school. We use practical strategies to build comfort, speed, and independence — striving to help children focus more on what they want to write about rather than the physical act of getting their thoughts down on a page.

Fine + Gross Motor Skills

We aim to help children build both fine and gross motor skills that are essential for everyday activities — from holding a pencil and using scissors to running and getting dressed. When these skills are challenging, daily routines can become frustrating for both kids and families. Through fun, targeted activities, we support strength, precision, and coordination so your child can move, play, and participate more independently at home, at school, and out in the world.

Sensory Processing Support

We understand how sensory processing challenges can make everyday activities overwhelming or uncomfortable. That’s why our approach focuses on supporting each child’s unique sensory needs and regulation skills to help them feel calm, secure, and more aware of their body. This might look like helping a child manage sensitivities to sounds, textures, or bright lights, or teaching strategies to stay focused and calm in busy or noisy environments. When a child’s sensory system is better regulated, they can participate more fully and confidently in daily routines — whether it’s playing, learning, or interacting with others.

Self-Regulation Strategies

Managing big emotions and impulses can be challenging — especially in busy or demanding environments like school, home, or social settings. To address this, our services focus on building children’s self-regulation skills to help them better understand their feelings, make thoughtful decisions, and stay in control of their actions. This might look like learning to pause and think when frustrated, using visual tools to support routines and transitions, or practicing simple strategies to stay calm and focused. As your child builds these skills, they’ll feel more confident and better able to participate meaningfully in daily activities.

Executive Functioning

Everyday tasks — like starting homework, staying organized, sustaining focus, or finishing tasks — can feel overwhelming for children with executive functioning challenges. To support them, we strive to help children develop the skills they need to manage their time, plan ahead, and follow through with expectations. As your child strengthens these skills, they’ll be better equipped to handle daily demands with more confidence, less stress, and a greater sense of control.

Visual Processing

Visual processing is one of those hidden skills that often flies under the radar — but it plays a big role in how children learn, move, and function day-to-day. It’s not just about seeing clearly; it’s about how the brain makes sense of what the eyes take in. When visual processing is challenging, children may struggle with things like reading across a page, copying from the board, lining up math problems, or even navigating their space without bumping into things. For this reason, we focus our services on strengthening these behind-the-scenes visual skills to support reading, writing, coordination, and classroom participation.

Confidence + Motivation

When a child struggles with certain tasks — whether it’s handwriting, focusing, or following routines — it can take a toll on their confidence and motivation. Over time, they may start to feel discouraged, avoid challenges, or believe they’re “just not good at it.” That’s why we place just as much emphasis on building emotional resilience as we do on skill development. We create a safe, supportive space where your child can experience success, celebrate progress, and feel proud of their efforts. As their confidence grows, so does their willingness to try new things, take on challenges, and believe in their own abilities — in the classroom and beyond.

Independence in Daily Activities

Daily tasks like tying shoelaces, zipping up a jacket, or using a fork may seem simple — but for many children, these activities can feel frustrating and hard to manage on their own. For this reason, our services support children in building the fine motor skills, hand strength, and coordination needed to complete these everyday routines with greater ease. This might look like practicing tying shoelaces with visual supports, strengthening grasp for holding utensils, or breaking tasks into manageable steps your child can master. As their skills grow, so does their confidence — and with that comes a greater sense of independence at home, at school, and in the community.

Equipment LORs

We offer individualized letters of recommendation (LORs) for equipment funding through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) or private insurance, based on your child’s unique needs and goals. Whether your child would benefit from a sensory tool, dynamic seating, or specialized equipment to support regulation, focus, or participation, we ensure that each recommendation is rooted in a thorough assessment. We also guide families through equipment setup, provide strategies for everyday use, and offer follow-up to support safe and effective use of the equipment. Our goal is to help you get the tools your child needs — and know how to use them with confidence.
