Parent and Caregiver Support Across Ontario
Read below to learn more about our in-home and virtual parent and caregiver support services, available across Ontario!

A child’s wellbeing and a caregiver’s wellbeing are closely connected.
When a child is struggling, the demands on parents and caregivers can be significant. Supporting the caregiver can strengthen their capacity to respond with confidence, consistency, and care.
At the same time, when a child begins to feel and function better, the whole family often benefits.
That’s why Oaknine Healthcare supports both sides of the relationship through two distinct services:
– Parent and caregiver coaching helps you better understand and support your child, navigate challenges, and apply practical strategies at home.
– Confidential therapy for parents and caregivers focuses on your own mental health and wellbeing, giving you space to work through stress, difficult emotions, relationship pressures, and the personal impact of caregiving.
Together, these services help strengthen the entire family unit, because caring for a child also means caring for the people supporting them every day.
We offer in-home parent and caregiver services in major hubs across Ontario, with virtual services available throughout the province.

Are services eligible for OAP funding?
Yes — Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Social Work, Art Therapy, Psychotherapy, and Parent Coaching services are eligible for OAP (Ontario Autism Program) funding.
Note: Physical Therapy (PT) and and therapy for parents and caregivers are not covered under OAP, but may be covered by private health insurance (see next question below).
Do you accept private health insurance?
Yes. Many families use their extended health benefits to cover OT, SLP, PT, Social Work, Art Therapy, and Psychotherapy services at Oaknine Healthcare. Coverage varies by plan, so we encourage families to check with their insurer regarding annual limits and requirements.

Is parent and caregiver support only about helping your child?
Supporting your child is an important part of parenting and caregiving, but your own wellbeing matters too. Parent and caregiver support can help strengthen the whole family by giving you practical strategies to support your child while also making sure you have support for your own needs.
Our services can support goals such as understanding your child’s needs, responding to challenging situations, building helpful routines, strengthening communication and connection, navigating school or family challenges, managing stress, building confidence as a caregiver, supporting your own mental health and wellbeing… and more!
When caregivers feel better supported, they are often better equipped to support their children. And as a child’s wellbeing and participation improve, that can have a positive impact on the wellbeing of the whole family.
What’s the difference between coaching and therapy for parents and caregivers?
Parent and caregiver coaching focuses on helping you support your child. It is practical and goal-oriented, with strategies tailored to your child’s needs, your family routines, and the situations you are navigating at home, school, or in the community.
Therapy for parents and caregivers focuses on you. It provides a confidential space to support your own mental health and wellbeing, including concerns such as stress, anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, or the emotional demands of caregiving.
Both can support the wellbeing of the whole family: coaching can help you feel more confident and effective in supporting your child, while therapy can help you feel more supported in your own life.
How do virtual therapy sessions work?
Virtual therapy is delivered through a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform.
Families can expect:
– An interactive session
– Live coaching and hands-on strategies
– Visuals, activities, and digital tools
– A follow-up summary with actionable recommendations
How long is each therapy session?
Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on your needs and therapeutic goals. Many families also find that longer sessions are helpful, and these can be requested if desired.
Do you offer consultations prior to moving forward?
Yes. We offer brief phone consultations to help ensure our services and therapist are a good fit for your needs. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions, share your goals, and better understand next steps before committing to services. If needed, we can also explore matching you with another therapist on our team to find the best possible fit.
